Sep 14, 2023 · Updated 11:06 PM PDT, September 13, 2023. STOCKHOLM (AP) — Sweden this week marks the 50th anniversary of King Carl XVI Gustaf’s accession to the throne with four days of celebrations that culminate with a military parade through the capital.

Mar 5, 2024 · 'For Sweden – with the times.' This is the motto of King Carl XVI Gustaf, Sweden's Head of State and foremost representative of the Swedish royal family. Armed with the ambition to serve his country in a manner always suitable to the present, the King ascended to the Swedish throne on 15 September 1973.
Before the passage of that law, Victoria's younger brother, Carl Philip, was briefly the heir apparent, as of his birth in May 1979. Carl XVI Gustaf is the longest-reigning monarch in Swedish history, having surpassed King Magnus IV 's reign of 44 years and 222 days on 26 April 2018. Oops something went wrong:
Carl XVI Gustaf is King of Sweden. He ascended the throne on the death of his grandfather, Gustaf VI Adolf, on 15 September 1973. He is the youngest child and only son of Prince Gustaf Adolf, Duke of Västerbotten, and Princess Sibylla of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
