Chamberland and French physician Pierre Paul Émile Roux (1853-1933) assisted Pasteur in his public experiment to test a method of preventative vaccination for anthrax. The scientists successfully vaccinated sixty sheep, proving the efficacy of the new vaccine. Chamberland is also noted for his contributions to the invention of the autoclave.
