Oct 6, 2021 · Charles II, known as "the Lame" (French le Boiteux, Italian lo Zoppo) (1254 – 5 May 1309) was King of Naples, King of Albania, Prince of Salerno, Prince of Achaea and Count of Anjou. Biography. He was the son of Charles I of Anjou, who had conquered the Kingdom of Naples and Sicily in the 1260s.
On this day in 1309, King Charles II of Naples died. It is interesting to note that this medieval ruler had remarkably respectable offspring. In fact, he was the father of a saint, an emperor, and two kings of different countries.

Feb 15, 2010 · In a daring move, Pope Nicholas IV crowned Charles II as King of Naples and Sicily in 1289. In the following years, Charles concerned himself largely with negotiating a peace for the "two Sicilies," as his territory was often called.

He married Mary of Hungary Queen of Naples about May 1270, in Naples, Naples, Campania, Italy. They were the parents of at least 8 sons and 5 daughters. He died on 5 May 1309, in Naples, Kingdom of Naples, at the age of 55, and was buried in Aix-en-Provence, Bouches-du-Rhône, France.
