With more than 8,800 acres of green space, the Chicago Park District is one of the largest municipal park managers in the nation. The District’s more than 600 parks offer thousands of sports and physical activities as well as cultural and environmental programs for youth, adults, and seniors.
Today as the Chicago Park District celebrates 85 years of serving the city, it boasts more than 8,800 acres of parkland, more than 600 parks, 26 miles of lakefront, 12 museums, two world-class conservatories, 16 historic lagoons, and nearly 50 nature areas.
The Chicago Park District is one of the oldest and the largest park districts in the United States. As of 2016, there are over 600 parks included in the Chicago Park District as well as 27 beaches, 10 boat docking harbors, two botanic conservatories, a zoo, and 11 museums, along with one stadium.

Chicago Park District programs are offered through four seasonal sessions each year: winter, spring, summer and fall. Registration for these activities may be available online and/or in-person, depending on the park. Online registration is divided into two zones over two days.
