Clarence House is currently closed to visitors. Built by John Nash in 1825-27 for George III’s third son, the Duke of Clarence, and previously home to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother for almost five decades.

Clarence House, one of the last remaining aristocratic townhouses in London. Built between 1825 and 1827 to the designs of John Nash, Clarence House takes its name from its first occupant, William Henry, Duke of Clarence, later William IV.
Clarence House is, in fact, part of St James’s Palace, but as it has been used as a separate royal residence it deserves its own entry. King George III’s third son William, Duke of Clarence (1765-1837) had lived in apartments at the west end of St James’s Palace since 1798.
