Cloris Leachman (April 30, 1926 – January 26, 2021) was an American actress and comedian, whose career spanned over seven decades. She won various accolades, including eight Primetime Emmy Awards from 22 nominations, making her the most nominated and, along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, most awarded actress in Emmy history.
- 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' From 1970 to 1975, Leachman played Mary Tyler Moore’s landlady who also happened to be her snobby friend and neighbor on the successful sitcom, The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
- 'The Last Picture Show' One of Leachman’s best-known performances is in 1971’s The Last Picture Show, which is based on the best-selling book of the same title by Larry McMurtry.
- 'Young Frankenstein' In the comedy-horror film Young Frankenstein, Leachman played Frau Blücher, the castle housekeeper whose name prompted a horse to neigh in fear each time it was said.
- 'Phyllis' The success of Leachman’s character Phyllis in The Mary Tyler Moore Show led to the spinoff Phyllis. The show lasted two seasons, ending the same year as the show it was based on and earning Leachman a Golden Globe in 1976 for best actress in a television series — comedy or musical.
