The area is known for Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, one of the most visited attractions in the Midwest and the only completely free zoo and botanical gardens in the country. The Visitor Center at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, developed by architectural firm HGA, opened for education classes in January of 2005 and celebrated its public opening in February 2005. The Visitor Center is 65,000 square feet and features meeting rooms, classrooms, and event spaces, in addition to a large auditorium and the Zobota Cafe.
