Jun 8, 2023 · Daniel Linz, a UCSB communication professor who teaches a course on the First Amendment, said freedom of speech is a legal myth. “It is not only a matter of context. There are legal boundaries. Law limits our speech,” Linz said. “It is a myth that we can speak freely, and that myth is enshrined in American lore and is continually bound by the law.”
