19th century. Early 19th century. Antoine LeClaire was the primary founder of Davenport. The Claim House was constructed by George L. Davenport, son of Colonel George Davenport, in 1832 or 1833 and is believed to be the oldest structure in the city. [2] In 1832, Chief Keokuk and General Winfield Scott signed a treaty to end the Black Hawk War. [3]
