David Auburn (born 30 November 1969) is an American playwright, screenwriter and theatre director. He is best known for his 2000 play Proof, which won the 2001 Tony Award for Best Play and Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

David Auburn is the author of Proof, The Columnist, and Summer, 1976, among other plays and films. He also directs and adapts works for the stage and radio, and serves as Associate Artistic Director of the Berkshire Theatre Group.
Proof is a 2000 play by the American playwright David Auburn. Proof was developed at George Street Playhouse in New Brunswick, New Jersey, during the 1999 Next Stage Series of new plays. The play premiered Off-Broadway in May 2000 and transferred to Broadway in October 2000.
