May 23, 2023 · David Sakurai, an OUSD carpenter, was shot and killed at Rudsdale High School in September 2022 while working on a campus shooting. His family, friends, colleagues and community members remembered him with a peace garden and a pergola at the alternative high school in the East Oakland hills. The school also improved security measures and mental health resources for students and staff.
