3. Walking. Very good. Detroit downtown is very walking friendly. The best known area is Greektown, but you can easily walk the area between the Opera House and the riverside, so no need to drive. 4. Safety. Not sure. I'm not local, so not sure what the police reports say, but I felt pretty safe in the downtown area.

1,487 reviews. Detroit is a city of grit. It's big and has the potential to be beautiful again (though even with all the abandoned properties it is still quite a sight). There's lot's to do downtown and in the surrounding neighbors with plenty of parks and bike friendly main roads.
