Jun 17, 2007 · BMG (RCA) and Columbia House club versions were often mastered from third generation tapes with added hiss and dropouts. Album art and packaging usually suffered too. But other than seeing a few skimps packaging wise, I don't think there's any difference. I see the usual EMI, WEA and JVC (for BMG & MCA) imprints) on the discs.

And the best use of music clubs is just to build a CD library, but I normally research what I want to buy on Allmusic.com first, it's an excellent site. It can be annoying to have to send those reply cards back, although I don't think Columbia House uses them anymore, and BMG does it through e-mail.
Jul 17, 2009 · I have always believed that whether or not a CD is manufacturered for a music club like BMG as opposed to the same CD being issued for regular distribution, etc., that said CD does in fact sound the same. I have never heard a difference between NON music club discs and Music club discs.

May 3, 2018 · The BMG music club offered stories, but it also provided an opportunity: my father liked music. Maybe I could find him somewhere inside of it. In my memory the CDs took months to come, though it couldn’t have been more than a few weeks. My mother and sister worked during the days, so I got our mail and kept my purchase concealed from my mother.
