Sutherland and Douglas have two children, twins Kiefer and Rachel. From 1970 to 1972, he had an affair with married Klute co-star Jane Fonda. Sutherland married French Canadian actress Francine Racette in 1972, after meeting her on the set of the Canadian pioneer drama Alien Thunder.
