- 1:35Teamsters will not endorse Trump or Harris in Nov. electionReuters VideosSTORY: The Teamsters union said Wednesday they won’t endorse any U.S. presidential candidate for the first time since 1996. That’s despite a majority of members backing Donald Trump over Kamala Harris in polls. A recent poll the Teamsters released Wednesday shows 59.6% of its members preferred the Republican candidate, compared to 34% for Democrat Harris. The union counts some 1.3 million members, working as everything from truck drivers and airline pilots to zookeepers. They have endorsed Democrats in every presidential contest since the year 2000. However, Teamsters President Sean O'Brien made a high-profile appearance at the Republican National Convention, backing Trump. He told Fox News the union's decision to decline an endorsement came after they, QUOTE, “couldn’t get solid commitments on our core issues” A Teamsters executive board endorsement could be important to either candidate in the November election. It's seen as a potential factor in a handful of battleground states that may decide the results, including Michigan, Nevada and Pennsylvania, where union membership is strong. Speaking to reporters in New York, Trump responded to the Teamsters decision not to endorse a candidate by saying “It's a great honor. They're not going to endorse the Democrats. That's a big thing." Most major unions have endorsed Harris, including the United Auto Workers union. The AFL-CIO, which represents 60 unions and 12.5 million workers, endorsed Harris in July.1 day ago

- 1:32IVF support bill fails in Congress despite Trump's supportReuters VideosSTORY: A U.S. Senate bill to provide federal protections and expand insurance coverage for fertility treatments failed on Tuesday. Republicans voted against it, despite Donald Trump recently expressing support for the policy. The bill was defeated 51-44, missing the 60 votes needed, as most Republicans opposed it for the second time. Democrats hold a narrow 51-49 majority in the Senate. The bill’s sponsor, Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth, first sought a vote in February. That was after Alabama's Supreme Court ruled that IVF embryos should be considered children, endangering access to the treatment. “Freedom to get reproductive care is at risk for millions of other women whose most desperate hope in the world is to have a little one of their own.” “Republicans only seem to care about protecting life when it supposedly consists of some cells in a medical lab freezer." In August, Donald Trump said he would make the government or insurance cover IVF if elected, surprising some Republicans who find the treatment controversial. "We want to produce babies in this country, right? We want to produce babies." "For IVF... and I've been looking at it and what we're going to do is for people that are using IVF, which is fertilization, we are, the government... Government is going to pay for it, or we're going to get or mandate your insurance company to pay for it, which is going to be great. We're going to do that." Trump's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.2 days ago
