Aug 23, 2013 · My take on Drinking Buddies is that not since Richard Linklater's earliest works has a film been so refreshing and unique. Naturalistic settings, minimal narrative structure, and what seems like...

About The Film Luke and Kate are co-workers at a Chicago brewery, where they spend their days drinking and flirting. They're perfect for each other, except that they're both in relationships. Luke is in the midst of marriage talks with his girlfriend of six years, Kate is playing it cool with her music producer boyfriend Chris.
DRINKING BUDDIES is in many ways a painful film to watch, as it lays bare the realities of living in a world whose inhabitants seem so busy that they never have time for one another. It communicates a series of human truths that we would do well to understand.

Aug 23, 2013 · "Drinking Buddies" squanders a rich opportunity to present the world of beer-making. It ignores the process completely. The main characters, Luke (Jake Johnson) and Kate (Olivia Wilde) work in a Chicago brewery. Kate is the brewery's sole female employee, but little is done with this goldmine of a detail.
Ambiguity is often the kiss of death for a movie -- that is, if it's mindless and stylized. But in DRINKING BUDDIES, ambiguity isn't just a cinematic device to prevent a filmmaker from making a commitment to a storyline; it's the thread that binds the relationships that are explored here. Kate and Luke adore each other, but they're just friends.
Kate (Olivia Wilde) and Luke (Jake Johnson) are co-workers at Chicago craft brewery Revolution Brewing, where they spend their days drinking and flirting. They are perfect for each other, except that they are both in relationships: Kate is with Chris (Ron Livingston), and Luke is with Jill (Anna Kendrick).
Comedy Luke and Kate constantly flirt on the job at the brewery but they’re both in relationships. But nothing blurs the line between “friends” more than beer.
