Welcome to Dublin Castle. Erected in the early thirteenth century on the site of a Viking settlement, Dublin Castle served for centuries as the headquarters of English, and later British, administration in Ireland.
For 700 years, from 1204 until independence, it was the seat of English (and then British) rule in Ireland. Rebuilt as the castle we now know in the seventeenth, eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Dublin Castle is now a government complex and an arena of state ceremony.
Tours run from 10.00am to 4.00pm daily. Online self guided tickets are available to book online from 14 days in advance. A limited number of self guided tickets are available each day from our ticket desk.
