Dulwich ( / ˈdʌlɪtʃ /; DUL-itch) is an area in south London, England. The settlement is mostly in the London Borough of Southwark, with parts in the London Borough of Lambeth, and consists of Dulwich Village, East Dulwich, West Dulwich, and the Southwark half of Herne Hill (which is often referred to as the North Dulwich triangle).
- Admire Art at Dulwich Picture Gallery. Believe it or not, the world’s first purpose-built public gallery is in Dulwich. The Dulwich Picture Gallery was founded in the early 19th century when Sir Francis Bourgeois bequeathed his massive collection of old masters “for public inspection”.
- Stroll Through Dulwich Park. If the weather’s good and you’ve visited the Gallery, you may as well cross the road and enjoy the sprawling outdoor splendour of Dulwich Park.
- Visit the Quirky House of Dreams. Okay, think quirky and then double it. Whatever weird and wonderful avenue your mind finds itself heading down won’t even begin to scratch the surface of the madcap artistic creation of Stephen Wright in East Dulwich.
- Explore the Horniman Museum. This free museum is one of our favourites in the capital, showcasing a beautiful journey of discovery into different cultures from around the world, with natural history, pottery, armour and music among the 350,000 items in their collection.

It also boasts of an idyllic park, a golf course, and a high street with picturesque shops and pubs. Walking around Dulwich is like stepping into a rural village in the middle of London.
- Take a wander round the Dulwich Picture Gallery. Founded all the way back in 1811, the Dulwich Picture Gallery was the first purpose-built public art gallery in the whole world.
- Explore some of the area’s eclectic street art. It may come as a bit of a surprise that there’s some street art in this bougie neck of the woods – but a wander through the Dulwich Outdoor Gallery will put aside any doubts you may have.
- Get the pints in at a pub or two. Now we love ourselves a good old boozer here at Secret London – we are Londoners after all – and Dulwich is packed full of some absolutely banging ones.
- Enjoy some peace and quiet at Christ’s Chapel. Another one of the best things to do in Dulwich here – and conveniently located right next to the Dulwich Picture Gallery – Christ’s Chapel is a beautiful building which was consecrated back in 1616 by George Abbot, the Archbishop of Canterbury, as part of the Dulwich College foundation.
