Edith was an open-minded woman with modern parenting ideals. During the time in the secret annex, she argued frequently with her lively daughter Anne. After the arrest, Edith fought for her daughters in the Westerbork transit camp and then later also in the Auschwitz concentration camp.
Otto and Edith married in the synagogue in Aachen, Germany, on 12 May 1925. After the ceremony, they had a luxurious dinner with Rhine salmon and mayonnaise, veal ragout with truffles, and stuffed morels, and ducklings with compote and salad, ice cream, cake, and mocha.
Edith Frank kept a baby picture book after the birth of her youngest daughter, in which she noted all sorts of things about Anne's health, appetite and growth. She continued to do this until 3 September 1929. After that, the book only functioned as a photo album. [1]
