The Edwin Abbot House, also known as the Zabriskie House, is an historic house at 27 Garden Street (originally 1 Follen Street) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Built in 1889 to a design by Longfellow, Alden & Harlow , it is a prominent local example of residential Richardsonian Romanesque architecture.

Edwin Abbot House Now occupied by the Longy School of Music, this house was constructed in 1889 by Longfellow, Alden and Harlow for Edwin Hale Abbot. Abbot was a railroad executive and lawyer.
Built of ochre sandstone with bands of brownstone, the Abbot House resembles, among others, Richardson's Glessner House (1885) in Chicago. The relieving arch over the front entrance and the massive scale of ashlar block emphasize the weight and surface texture of the wall.

Nov 21, 2016 · The Edwin Abbot House is an interesting interpretation of the Richardsonian Romanesque style. Whereas the great majority of such buildings feature rusticated, pink Milford granite in an ashlar pattern, trimmed with East Longmeadow brownstone, Longfellow created a unique spin for Mr. Abbot.
