Elisabeth Welch was a Black chanteuse singer and dancer who started her career as a child in New York and Paris. She sang in nightclubs, cabaret, and musicals, and starred in films and TV shows. She was known for her signature tune Solomon and her one-woman show A Marvellous Party. She died in 2003 at age 99.
