That September, she married William Marston. She took his name and became Elizabeth Holloway Marston, though she hated the tradition. “As for names, we are stuck with either our father’s name or our husband’s, so choose the one you like the best. There’s no such thing in this civilization as ‘your own name.’”
Elizabeth Holloway was born February 20, 1893 on the Isle of Mann. She was raised in Boston, Massachusetts in a traditional home. Her father expected her to join her mother in fulfilling household demands and did not entertain any ideas that she might study or work.
Elizabeth Holloway Marston worked at Metropolitan Life until she retired at 65. She supported Olive until she died and put all four children through college and graduate school. The New York Times wrote a story about the origin of Wonder Woman when she was in her 99 th year.
