When the Erie Canal Museum opened its doors on October 25, 1962, it celebrated and preserved the life of the last remaining weighlock building in America. This Greek revival building stands as a monument to the Erie Canal’s transformative role in the history of the United States.

Open daily from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM Closed at 2 PM on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Closed entirely on New Year’s Day, Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the week of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
We have a suggested donation of $10/person. Any contribution you can provide is greatly appreciated. We accept cash, credit, and Venmo donations at the Museum.
The Erie Canal Museum is set up for a self-guided experience. However, we often have docents available to guide guests through the Museum. If you are interested, inquire at the front desk about docent availability when you arrive.
