Apr 8, 2024 · Ernest Thompson Seton (born Aug. 14, 1860, South Shields, Durham, Eng.—died Oct. 23, 1946, Seton Village, Santa Fe, N.M., U.S.) was a naturalist and writer who was an early practitioner of the modern school of animal-fiction writing.
He is the author of the award-winning book, Ernest Thompson Seton: The Life and Legacy of an Artist and Conservationist. Witt is the founder of the Southwest Art History Conference and former curator of the University of New Mexico Harwood Museum of Art, Taos, where he created over two hundred exhibitions on the art and art history of New Mexico.
Seton, born Ernest Evan Thompson, was an award-winning wildlife illustrator and naturalist who was also a spell-binding storyteller and lecturer, a best-selling author of animal stories, an expert in Native American Sign language, and an early supporter of the political, cultural, and spiritual rights of First Peoples.
