Nov 13, 2009 · Ernie Kovacs, a popular TV host and comedian who hosted his own shows in the 1950s, died in a car crash on January 13, 1962, after crashing his Chevrolet Corvair into a pole in Los Angeles. The crash was caused by a defective design of the car, according to Ralph Nader's book Unsafe at Any Speed. The book also exposed the unsafe practices of the auto industry and led to federal safety standards.
