Ernst Heinrich Haeckel, the German zoologist and monist philosopher, was born in Potsdam. He studied medicine and science at W ü rzburg, Berlin, and Vienna with such authorities as Johannes M ü ller, Rudolf Virchow, and R. A. K ö lliker.
