When a footwear factory employee is found murdered, the factory owner, Fred Berrigan, is the prime suspect. When Berrigan, the childhood rival of Sheriff Metzger's deputy Andy Broom, claims the evidence implicating him was planted by Andy as revenge for cheating him and his fiancee into buying a heavily dilapidated apartment, some people actually side with him. Metzger has no choice but to suspend Andy from his duties. Still positive Berrigan is guilty, Andy tails him hoping to gather more evidence. However, during this pursuit, Berrigan is murdered, and Andy ends up the prime suspect.

Victim(s): Leverett Boggs and Fred Berrigan

    Killer: Meg Berrigan

Cause of Death: Strangled with a nylon cord; bludgeoned with a wrench.

Motive: Found out about the secret program she'd rigged up to embezzle money from the factory into an offshore account in order to get rid of Fred and start a new life, as she was tired of his laziness; realized Fred had received a tipoff about the program and feared he'd also find out she murdered Leverett.

Who takes it out on Andy the deputy for what he had found, given, that it's his job to find what he had found, no one had a problem with Andy until he had found what he had found in which had the town to turn on him for making it public ?
