   • In 1974 the school was renamed Fairfield High School and became a fully integrated co-educational comprehensive school. In 1979, David Blacow became headteacher succeeding R. Walker. Two years later, on Saturday 5 September 1981, the school's science block was set on fire causing damage estimated to have cost £100,000.
