In 1959, Ferdinand Porsche was honored with the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1963 there was a model change with the 911 model. The design for this type was created by "Ferry" Porsche's son Ferdinand-Alexander, who was born in 1935 and who also developed the shape of the Porsche 904 in his own design company.

Porsche had just handily won that year’s Targa Florio, beating the works entries from Ferrari and Maserati.
