It is also the terminus of the Rome to Florence high-speed railway line, also known as Dirrettissima, which means anyone visiting Rome to Florence via this 1 hour, 40-minute journey will wind up at Santa Maria Station.
Florence Santa Maria Novella (usually abbreviated to Firenze SMN) is the main station in Florence, named after the little church nearby. Although these stations aren’t the “main” train stations in Florence, some trains from other Italian cities bypass Firenze SMN to stop at Rifredi or Campo di Marte.
