Flowering plants are plants that bear flowers and fruits, and form the clade Angiospermae (/ ˌ æ n dʒ i ə ˈ s p ər m iː /), commonly called angiosperms. They include all forbs (flowering plants without a woody stem), grasses and grass-like plants, a vast majority of broad-leaved trees, shrubs and vines, and most aquatic plants.
- African Violet. Among the easiest flowering houseplants you can grow, African violets (Saintpaulia ionantha) bloom several times a year with little effort from you.
- Oxalis. This cute little plant has triangular, clover-like purple leaves that fold down at night or in dim light conditions. An almost constant show of pale pink or white blooms goes on above the foliage.
- Peace Lily. The upright white flowers of peace lily (Spathiphyllum wallisii) might not be super flashy, but they do have a stately elegance to them as they appear above the glossy foliage on long, slender stems.
- Anthurium. The flowers and foliage of anthuriums (Anthurium andraeanum) are both heart-shaped. The long-lasting flowers come in festive shades of pink, red, lavender, or white.
- Common Sunflower. Sunflowers (Helianthus annuus) might very well set the standard for giant blooms in the flower garden, but not all sunflowers are created equal when it comes to size.
- Cockscomb. The otherworldly coral shapes of cockscomb (Celosia argentea var. cristata) make it a garden focal point. Add to that the velvety texture and footlong size, and you have a staple for the cut flower garden.
- Hydrangea. In the world of hydrangea hybridizing, the big blooms just keep getting better. This genus of plants has several species commonly used in landscaping, all of which are famous for having large flowers.
- Oriental Poppy. If you like extra-large poppies, go for oriental poppies in the Goliath group, such as ‘Beauty of Livermere’. Oriental poppies bloom in late spring to early summer.

- Bromeliads. If you're looking for an indoor-friendly plant that produces brightly-colored blooms, Mast suggests bromeliads. "They come in a variety of vibrant colors and the blooms can last up to three months," she says.
- African Violet. For a flowering houseplant that doesn't require full sun, Steinkopf says to consider African violets. "These fuzzy-leaved African natives are perfect for an east window or under electric lights," she explains.
- Aeschynanthus Lipstick Vine. Commonly known as a "lipstick" plant, the Aeschynanthus lipstick vine has pointy, waxy leaves and produces blooms with clusters of bright red flowers.
- Chrysanthemums. According to Mast, chrysanthemums are an ideal plant for growing indoors. "They require very little care other than keeping the soil moist and making sure the pot has good drainage," she explains.
