Bartolommeo served as an apprentice in the workshop of Cosimo Rosselli and then formed a workshop with the painter Mariotto Albertinelli.

Fra Bartolomeo was an Italian Renaissance painter of religious subjects, influenced by Domenico Ghirlandaio and Filippo Lippi. He painted both in oils and fresco, and his famous portrait of Savonarola is his most famous work. He also painted the Vision of St. Bernard, a High Renaissance masterpiece, and the Universal Judgement, a fresco for the Ospedale di Santa Maria Nuova.
