frequency. In physics, the number of crests of a wave that move past a given point in a given unit of time. The most common unit of frequency is the hertz ( Hz ), corresponding to one crest per second. The frequency of a wave can be calculated by dividing the speed of the wave by the wavelength.
Frequency—number of waves passing by a specific point per second. Period—time it takes for one wave cycle to complete. In addition to amplitude, frequency, and period, their wavelength and wave velocity also characterize waves. The wavelength λ λ is the distance between adjacent identical parts of a wave, parallel to the direction of propagation.
