Reporter Ellen Garfield (Bette Davis) wouldn't mind accepting her boyfriend and fellow reporter Curt Devlin's (George Brent) marriage proposal -- as long as he acknowledges that she's just as good a journalist as him. Stubborn Curt resorts to trickery to best Ellen, convincing her to report the wrong verdict in a murder trial at the rival paper she works for.
