Pilot is the first episode of season one of Future Man released November 14, 2017, along with the rest of season one.

Josh Futturman is an unambitious janitor who lives with his parents and spends most of his time playing the video game "Biotic Wars". One night, after countless unsuccessful attempts, Josh beats the game's final level. Two of the characters from the game, Tiger and Wolf, travel back in time to Josh’s bedroom and explain that everything in the Bioti...

The episode opens with a dream sequence, in which unambitious janitor, Josh Futturman, imagines himself as the savior of humanity within the video game “Biotic Wars,” defeating Biotic soldiers and going by the alias Future Man. He is soon after awoken by his father, Gabe Futturman.

Josh is shown to work at Kronish Laboratories, a sexual disease research center that is looking for the cure for herpes. The lab was founded by Dr. Elias Kronish, who also happens to be Josh’s boss. Josh has a short conversation with Dr. Kronish about how he contracted herpes on the night of the moon landing, which inspired him to become a scientist in the first place.

Unhappy with his menial job as a janitor at Kronish Laboratories and dissatisfied to still be living with his parents, Josh developed an obsession with the Biotic Wars game, which is supposedly unbeatable. One night, after countless unsuccessful attempts, Josh beats the game's final level, and is labeled an in-game savior. As he is masturbating to celebrate his victory, two of the characters from the game, Tiger and Wolf, appear in his room with a flash of light. They explain that everything in the Biotic Wars game is real, and that the game was sent back in time to recruit the savior of humanity: Josh.

Initially, Josh does not believe the pair, but Tiger and Wolf use the time travel device (TTD) and go to 1969, where Josh encounters younger versions of his family. They rough him up, revealing that he cannot fight like Tiger and Wolf assumed he could. They flee the house and Josh explains that in 2017, video games exist as pure escapism, and that he has none of the skills his Future Man persona from the game does.

In an attempt to blend in better with their surroundings, they engage in a fight with a group of bikers known as the Double Damned and steal their clothes and bikes. They ride to a nearby diner and go to recuperate after their missteps and get on the same page. Tiger and Wolf explain that they had come to take the savior to 1969, hoping Josh would know what was significant about 1969 in stopping Dr. Kronish from creating the cure. Josh is initially confused, but it is revealed that the super-cure that created the Biotics came from Dr. Kronish’s cure for herpes. Josh recalls that Dr. Kronish only became a scientist because he contracted herpes on the night of the moon landing in 1969.

Hope restored in Josh, Tiger gives him a gun, which he immediately accidentally fires in the diner, causing them to flee. In order to keep from being arrested, Wolf throws a subatomic sensor mine at the cop car coming after them, killing one of the two cops inside.

•The raining sparks and spinning yellow lights in the scenery of the dream sequence at the beginning of the episode are a nod to the movie Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

•There are several posters visible in Josh’s room including: Cage the Elephant, Night of the Living Dead, Battlestar Galactica, Gears of War 3, and multiple others.

•Josh visits a video game store, which has many posters and memorabilia for various video games. Also in the store, he discusses Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, the Super Mario Brothers, Halo, Call of Duty, and BioShock with the two employees.

•The song “Good Thing” by Michael Nau can be heard as Josh is cleaning a window, ogling his coworker Jeri through the glass.

•Elias Kronish references the famous quote misattributed to Albert Einstein that insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.

•When Tiger and Wolf appear in Josh’s room, he claims their story follows the same plot as the movie The Last Starfighter.
