It is in the municipality of Stranda at the head of the Geirangerfjorden, which is a branch of the large Storfjorden. The nearest city is Ålesund.
Cruising the Geirangerfjord. One of the many highlights of this tour is the Fjord cruise on the famous Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site, and Norway's most beautiful fjord. A long the fjord, there are a number of abandoned mountain farms and impressive waterfalls, including the Seven Sisters and the Suitor.
Geiranger and the Geirangerfjord are part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The Geiranger area is like a beautiful postcard, and has attracted tourists since the dawn of time. RIB-boating or a Fjord Cruise are great ways to experience this majestic fjord. One of the most popular hikes is the hike to the abandoned mountain farm Skageflå.
The Geirangerfjord is located in the Sunnmøre region of Møre og Romsdal county. It is a 15km branch off the Storfjord and is one of Norway’s most popular tourist sites. The beauty of the fjord is unparalleled and is best seen by boat and from designated viewing platforms in the area.
The area’s unique natural surroundings were created over a succession of ice ages, when glaciers carved out deep fjords and shaped the high mountains. With its natural beauty, it's no surprise that Geirangerfjord often appears on lists of the most spectacular places in the world. Impressive waterfalls cascade down steep mountainsides.

Formed in the shape of an S, nature herself has provided the first letter for many of the superlatives often used to describe the Geirangerfjord; stupendous, stunning, spectacular. Another often-used phrase used to describe the 20-kilomtre long between Hellesylt and Geiranger is "The pearl of the fjords".
