In 1991 Newbern landed the role he is perhaps known best for, as Bryan MacKenzie in "Father of the Bride" (1991) opposite Steve Martin and Diane Keaton. He also appeared in the movie's sequel "Father of the Bride Part II" (1995). In 1998 Newbern appeared in three episodes of "Friends" (NBC, 1994-2004).
