The $1.3 billion center opened to the public on December 16, 1997, [2] and is well known for its architecture, gardens, and views overlooking Los Angeles.

The Getty Center is closed on Mondays but open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on other days, with the exception of Saturdays, when the hours of operation are extended to 8:00 p.m.; the Villa is closed on Tuesdays but otherwise open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
