New's introduction to filming in Hollywood was one of the last scenes in the film, where Jack Sparrow is rescued from a hanging. His first shot in his first film ever was a parrot "repeatedly relieving himself" on his face. New would later reprise the role in At World's End, and Dead Men Tell No Tales.
