Giuseppina Strepponi. Maria Clelia Giuseppa Strepponi, detta Giuseppina ( Lodi, 8 settembre 1815 – Villanova sull'Arda, 14 novembre 1897 ), è stata un soprano italiano, seconda moglie di Giuseppe Verdi nonché sua grande amica, confidente e consigliera, avendone curato per molto tempo gli affari.

The prima donna who created Abigaille in Nabucco, Giuseppina Strepponi, who also had helped Verdi as early as 1839 with Oberto, ultimately became his second wife. Her love, support, and practical assistance on behalf of Verdi, over half a century, was boundless, though he was not an easy husband.
Jun 13, 2023 · Clelia Maria Josepha (Giuseppina) Strepponi was a nineteenth-century Italian operatic soprano of great renown and the second wife of composer Giuseppe Verdi. She is often credited with having contributed to Verdi's first successes, starring in a number of his early operas, including the role of Abigaille in the world premiere of Nabucco in 1842.
Appearing in this irst performance of Nabucco in 1842, hich launched the young Verdi in Europe, was Giuseppina Strepponi. She became his second wife and lifelong companion. Her part in the opera (singing the vocally arduous role of Abigaille) had initially been imposed on Verdi by the impresario Merelli.
