Glenn Hammond Curtiss (May 21, 1878 – July 23, 1930) was an American aviation and motorcycling pioneer, and a founder of the U.S. aircraft industry. He began his career as a bicycle racer and builder before moving on to motorcycles. As early as 1904, he began to manufacture engines for airships.

Glenn Curtiss rode the world’s first V-8 motorcycle to a speed of 136 mph and became known as “the fastest man on earth.” In October, he joined the Aerial Experiment Association, or AEA, a group founded by Alexander Graham Bell, the famous inventor, and financed by Bells’ wife Mabel who—like Curtiss’s sister Rutha—was deaf.
Already a pioneering builder and record-setting racer of motorcycles, Glenn Hammond Curtiss (1878-1930) was making a name for himself in the engine manufacturing business when he turned his eyes to the skies.
