I love the frantic riffs on this album, they're fast, aggressive and about as technical as Cannibal Corpse will get. George also flexes his vocal range with low deep bellows and high black-metal-esque screams.
Rekindled gore obsess rend the weak. Mutilate then murder consciously. Death brought to the enemies of the past. A life of beheading I must have. Pure revenge is burning inside me. Slit open crushed eyeballs dripping hanging from the sockets. Steel cracked bone with fatal trauma to the cerebellum. Useful lust of gore.
Having listened to Cannibal Corpse for something like 2 decades already, I have realized that Gore Obsessed is a landmark in the band's discography, it is an album that marked a breaking point because with it they stepped up to a new level of musicianship and performance, yet it is usually overlooked by the fans aswell as the band itself.
No, Gore Obsessed isn’t about a former Vice President’s fixation on Florida’s butterfly ballots. It’s much creepier. Banned in Australia, New Zealand, Korea and (to a lesser degree) Germany, this mean-spirited metal act drags listeners through a gothic world of mutilation, murder, cadavers and the voracious undead.
