He called her a "wonderful mother" and asked for privacy and respect as they enter a period of transition in their relationship. The couple have two children together and have been married since 1997.
Hightower, who shares two children with De Niro, has lived in the nearly 6,000-square-foot prewar duplex co-op at 88 Central Park West since 2006, when she and De Niro purchased it for $20.9 million.
