The popularity of the park grew with the addition of the zoo (1889) and Cyclorama (1893). Today, Grant Park is the oldest surviving city park in Atlanta. It now encompasses 131.5 acres.
Located close to Downtown Atlanta, just south of Oakland Cemetery and east of Turner Field, Grant Park is characterized by Victorian-style architecture, little villages of local shops and restaurants, and the fourth-largest park in the city.

It is reported that his love of trees and nature inspired him to suggest to Grant, a prosperous railroad engineer from Frankfort, Maine, who had moved to Atlanta in 1840, that the land be donated to the city.
