Greektown is a commercial and entertainment district in Detroit, Michigan, located just northeast of the heart of downtown, along Monroe Avenue between Brush and St. Antoine streets. It has a station by that name on the city's elevated downtown transit system known as the Detroit People Mover.
Apr 21, 2023 · Greektown, Detroit’s oldest neighborhood, has a rich cultural and architectural heritage. It’s one of the few remaining Victorian-era business streetscapes in the city’s downtown area. In the 1830s, German immigrants laid the groundwork for what is now known as Greektown.
The traditional center of Detroit’s Greek community, the Greektown neighborhood is one of the last surviving Victorian-era commercial streetscapes in downtown Detroit. Lively Monroe Street is the heartbeat of historic Greektown, and our district is bounded by Gratiot, Randolph, Lafayette, and I-375.
Greektown Historic District. The Greektown Historic District, commonly referred to simply as “Greektown,” is a historic neighborhood, commercial district, and entertainment district on Monroe Avenue between Brush and St. Antoine streets. It is dominated by Greek themed décor and restaurants.
With a rich cultural and architectural legacy, Greektown boasts one of the last surviving Victorian-era commercial streetscapes in downtown Detroit and has been a traditional center of ethnic retailing that has served multiple communities in its 190 year history.
