Given his young age, Griffin (Peter Falk) is shocked to discover that he not only has cancer, but that it's inoperable and he has but a short time to live. Determined not to give in to depression and self-pity, he enrolls in a college class where he meets free-spirited Phoenix (Jill Clayburgh).
