Since the doors opened in 1935, Griffith Observatory has become the most-visited public observatory in the world. The Observatory’s history starts with the vision of one man and reflects the invention, innovation, and inspiration that also characterize Los Angeles.
Exhibits. Sparking imagination and inquiry through exposure to the awe and wonder inherent in astronomy is the goal of Griffith Observatory’s exhibit program. Each visitor is cast in the role of an observer and provided with opportunities to see and do real observing in authentic environments.
Oct 1, 2023 · Daily Programs. While our most prominent daily programs are the shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium, the Observatory offers many other stellar experiences while you visit. During the day, you can see the live image of the Sun on our coelostat (solar telescope) in the Ahmanson Hall of the Sky.
