When lawyer Richard Grant (Lionel Barrymore) finds out that his daughter, Barbara (Madge Evans), is set to marry one of his old clients, Gordon Rich (Alan Mowbray), he protests because he knows Gordon is a philanderer and possible murderer. When Gordon refuses to call off the wedding, Richard murders him and makes it appear a suicide.
