Hammersmith Is Out marked the final feature film pairing of Burton and Taylor, who previously had appeared together in eight films, starting with 1963's Cleopatra, during which the two began an affair that led to their marriage in 1964. After divorcing in 1974, they remarried from October 1975 to August 1976.
