Helmuts Balderis-Sildedzis (born 31 July 1952) is a former Latvian professional ice hockey player. He played on the right wing and participated at the 1980 Winter Olympics, where the Soviet team unexpectedly lost to the United States.

Helmūts Balderis was the first great Latvian ice hockey player and is still considered the greatest Latvian player ever. Balderis started to play with Dinamo Riga in 1969, playing there until 1977.

Nov 2, 2016 · Helmut Balderis set an NHL record 27 years ago. On November 2, 1989, the 37-year old right wing scored a goal for the Minnesota North Stars in a 4-3 loss to the Blackhawks at Chicago Stadium. By doing so, he became the oldest player in NHL history to score his first goal in the NHL.
